Hammer

I used to believe that my job in life was the selection of the proper hammer. Choosing just the right size hammer for pounding a particular peg in a particular hole.... that is quite an art. I was on my way to becoming a master.

Of course, the more contrary the peg, the bigger the hammer. Moving up the scale to a large hammer seemed to be a daily occurance. Conflict and the threat of violence... as a way of life... it left a lot to be desired. On a day following a night of fitful sleep, I may have selected a larger hammer than was necessary, just to be sure you know.....

Today, I do not have to be a square peg in a round hole, and I am not the hammer chooser. Put the hammer down. Not the pedal to the metal, the hammer on the bench or on the ground, and step away from the hammer....

It is taking some training, and the idea that time spent not doing something could possibly be productive or effective.... that takes some real getting used to. You have to experience the benefit before faith can assist.

Step away from the hammer. Live less willfully.
